Kent Construction Consultants, East Kent’s leading and award winning Chartered Quantity Surveyors are actively seeking a Trainee Quantity Surveyor to join the team. The role requires candidates who are ideally working towards becoming Degree qualified, with aspirations of becoming professionally recognised by the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and/or Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB).

Being the Trainee Quantity Surveyor, the successful candidate will be responsible for supporting our team of Quantity Surveyors, reporting directly to our Lead Surveyor. The project/s will consist of new high-end residential developments located throughout Kent, Surrey and London.

The successful candidate must hold good presentation skills with a good academic background and willingness to learn the profession. As a multi multi-disciplinary chartered practice our professional appointments include residential, hospitality and commercial projects for private clients, local developers, and organisations. As the Trainee Quantity Surveyor representing the business, you will be required to shadow seniors and professionally advise and recommend the best commercial options and solutions to our high net worth clients.

Role Description

• Assisting with the preparation of NRM1 Cost Plans and undertaking some with guidance and supervision from seniors.
• Understanding the requirement of NRM2 Bills of Quantities.
• Assisting with the collation of tendering documents, management and appointment of professional designers and consultants.
• Learning and understanding procurement strategies and tender options.
• Assisting with pre-commencement and occupation planning conditions to be discharged with the support and supervision of their seniors.
• Assisting with the facilitation and delivery of tender processes.
• Prepare meeting notes and minutes, distribute, and attend DTMs, progress meetings, mid-tender interviews, and prestart meetings.
• Support and facilitate traditional and design & build procurement deliveries.
• Provide seniors support with the management of clients, main contractors, and specialist contractors.
• Understand, draft and support seniors with various forms of JCT, NEC and/or Framework main contracts.
• Preparation and submission of monthly cost reporting and/or cost value reconciliation reports.
• Preparation and submission of monthly valuation assessments and payment notice certificates in accordance with the form of contract and Construction Act.
• Support seniors and value, assess and manage change control procedures and value both risk and opportunities.
• Understand and monitor cash forecasts which align construction programmes.
• Assist with the administration of contracts, including notices and procedures.
• Robust document management and presentation skills
• Commercial willingness to learn the contract forms.
• Keen to learn and understand technical requirements and construction technology.
• Ability to work collectively within the commercial team and wider professional team.
• Training provided to use digital measuring software such as Bluebeam, Costx, Causeway or similar.

The successful candidate must hold a full UK Driving Licence and use of own transportation. The role will require the candidate to be based between home, site, and our office located in Margate.
